Grasslands Public Schools is pleased to announce that Dana Kohlman will be transferring to Duchess School as Principal beginning in the 2026–2027 school year.

Dana is a hands-on leader who understands the unique strengths and challenges of rural education. Having spent the majority of his career in rural settings, he knows how to build strong relationships with students, staff, and families in tight-knit communities. His approach is built on practical support for teachers, a deep understanding of student services, and a commitment to working alongside his staff to achieve shared goals. His extensive background in rural and colony schools makes him a natural fit for the culture and community at Duchess School.

Dana brings over 20 years of experience within Grasslands and beyond. Since 2020, he has served as Principal of the Divisions Colony Schools, where he managed seven schools across a wide geographic area, balancing complex administration with direct instructional support. Previously, he served as Vice Principal at Eastbrook School and held Principalships at both Alcoma School and Rolling Hills School. His career began in the Frontier School Division in Manitoba, giving him a broad perspective on the realities of rural school leadership.

Beyond his administrative roles, Dana is an experienced educator who has contributed to the profession as an ATA Association Administrator Instructor and as a curriculum developer for Pearson Publishing. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland and the University of Victoria, and a Master of Education in Instruction, Administration, and Curriculum from the University of Northern British Columbia.
